Content & Grievance Policy

Last updated: 7 October 2026

1. Our role

VoltKit is a technology provider. For content that other people upload, stream or send, we act as an intermediary under section 79 of the Information Technology Act, 2000: we provide the systems that carry and briefly store it, but we do not start those transmissions, choose who receives them, or select or change what they contain. The person or business who sends content is responsible for it.

We follow the due-diligence duties of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021 (the “IT Rules”). Our rules for content are in the Acceptable Use Policy; we remind account holders of them at least once every three months.

2. What we can and cannot see

  • Live audio and video pass through our media servers encrypted, and are not recorded by default. Once a live session ends there is nothing for us to review or remove.
  • Recordings exist only where a customer has turned on our optional, paid recording service for their project. They are stored for the period the customer chose, and we can remove them while they exist.
  • Chat messages sent through VoltKit RTC are kept for a short time (see the Privacy Policy), so we can remove them while they exist.
  • SVGA Maker files and anything else stored in an account can be removed by us.
  • Our customers' apps are run by them; we cannot see who their users are beyond the identities the app gives us (section 7).

3. How to report content

Use the report form; no account is needed, and you get a ticket number and a link to follow the report. You can also email contact@voltkit.in with “Content report” in the subject. Please include:

  • where the content is: the app or website, room code, project, link or file name;
  • what it is and why you think it breaks the law or the Acceptable Use Policy;
  • when you saw it, and any screenshots that help (never send child sexual abuse material itself);
  • your name and how to reach you; you can ask us not to share your details with the person you report.

If content shows you in an intimate or sexual way without your consent, or is impersonating you, say so in the subject; we treat these first. If anyone is in immediate danger, call 112.

4. What happens after a report

These are the times India's IT Rules set for complaints about content and for legal orders. They apply only to those; everyday support questions are answered within 2–3 business days.

  • Every report and grievance gets a ticket number as soon as it is sent. That is our acknowledgement, which the law requires within 24 hours.
  • Content that shows a person's private parts, a person in a sexual act, or that impersonates someone (including with altered or AI-made images): we remove or disable access to anything we host within 2 hours of the report, and tell the customer whose app carried it to do the same.
  • Other reports that content breaks the law or the Acceptable Use Policy: we act within 36 hours where we host the content, and resolve the report within 7 days.
  • When we remove content or suspend a project, we keep the related records for 180 days, or longer if a court or authority asks, as the IT Rules require.
  • We tell the person who reported, and where it is safe and lawful, the person whose content was affected and how they can challenge the decision.

5. Court orders and government requests

  • We remove or disable content within 3 hours of receiving an order from a court, or a reasoned written notice from an authorised government officer under the IT Act that states its legal basis and where the content is, or sooner if the order requires.
  • We help authorised law-enforcement agencies with lawful requests for information, normally within 72 hours. Requests must come in writing from an official address, name the legal provision and describe the account, project or room concerned. Send them through the ticket form, or to contact@voltkit.in with “Law enforcement request” in the subject.
  • We report child sexual abuse material to the police or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in), as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act requires, and keep the evidence for them. We report cyber security incidents to CERT-In as the law requires.

To report an infringement of your copyright or trademark, send the report described in section 3 with: the work and proof that you own it or act for the owner, where the infringing copy is, who uploaded it if you know, and a statement that the use is not licensed. For a copyright notice under section 52(1)(c) of the Copyright Act, 1957 and rule 75 of the Copyright Rules, 2013, also undertake to file an infringement suit and send us the court's order within 21 days. If the notice is complete, we disable access to stored copies within 36 hours, for 21 days or until we receive a court order, and we may restore access if no order arrives in that time. Repeat infringers lose access to VoltKit.

7. Content in our customers' apps

Many apps are built on VoltKit RTC by our customers. The customer runs the app, decides who can use it and is responsible for its users and content. If your report is about content in such an app:

  • report it to the app first, using the reporting tools or contact details the app provides;
  • if the app does not respond, or the content is serious, report it to us as in section 3, naming the app. We pass the report to the customer and require them to act. If they do not, we may suspend their project or account.

8. Grievances and appeals

For any other complaint about VoltKit, your account or our decisions, raise a grievance (no account needed) or email our Grievance Officer at contact@voltkit.in with “Grievance” in the subject. You get a ticket number at once, and we resolve it within 7 days.

If you are not satisfied with our Grievance Officer's decision, you can appeal to the Grievance Appellate Committee set up by the Government of India under the IT Rules, within 30 days of the decision. Personal data complaints can also go to the Data Protection Board of India (see the Privacy Policy), and consumer complaints to a consumer commission.
