How to play Memory Match
- Pick a board size. 4×4 has eight pairs; 6×6 has eighteen.
- Tap or click a card to turn it over, then a second card. If the symbols match they stay face up; if not, both flip back after a moment.
- Every pair of flips counts as one move. The timer starts on your first flip.
- Match every pair to finish. Shuffle starts a new board.
Scoring
- Fewer moves and a lower time are better. Both bests are saved per board size in your browser.
Tips
- Flip cards in a fixed order (row by row) at the start so the positions you have seen form a pattern you can recall.
- When a new card matches one you have already seen, go straight to it; don't reveal a new card first.
- Say the symbol and position in your head as you see them. Verbal labels stick better than images alone.
- On 6×6, work one region of the board at a time instead of hunting across the whole grid.
About Memory Match
The pairs game, also called Concentration or Pelmanism, has been played with ordinary playing cards since at least the early 1900s. It exercises short-term visual memory and is a favourite for all ages because the rules need no explanation.
This version uses distinct icons and colours so cards are recognisable without relying on colour alone, works with a keyboard, and keeps your best results on your own device.
