Agora alternative: VoltKit RTC and the other video APIs, list prices compared
Every vendor figure on this page is a list price read from the vendor's own public page on 2026-10-24, in the vendor's own currency, with the URL beside it. VoltKit RTC's rates are read live from its price list and shown in rupees, with an approximate dollar figure for orientation.
Agora comes first: its voice and video rates, how its tiers and packages are counted, and what moving an Agora app involves. Then ten other video APIs share one table, and the six with a page of their own are linked from their rows.
VoltKit RTC:₹99 (≈ $1.04) per 1,000 participant-minutes for Full HD video at the list prices published on 2026-10-24 by the vendors compared.

Derived from Agora's tier definition, which prices video by the aggregate resolution of all the streams a user subscribes to. The rows assume every stream arrives at full size; smaller windows and lower simulcast layers reduce the aggregate. VoltKit bills the highest media a participant sends or receives, so the number of streams received does not change its rate.agora.ioread 2026-10-24
VoltKit's rate for the same thing
One video rate covers 480p, 720p and 1080p at 30 fps with HD audio included; voice comes at a standard and an HD rate; 60 fps upgrades are charged only while 60 fps is delivered. Every rate is per 1,000 participant-minutes, recorded in seconds and billed per participant-second. The same list is on the pricing page, and pricing in India adds a participant-minute calculator and paying by UPI, card or net banking.
Each participant is billed one rate at a time: the highest of what they send and what they receive, recorded every 5 seconds and charged per second.

Billing units
How the billing units differ
Per-minute figures only compare when the minute means the same thing. Here is what each vendor counts, in its own words, with the page it comes from.
VoltKit RTC: per participant-minute, by the media used
One participant connected for one minute = one participant-minute.
Each participant is billed one rate at a time: the highest of what they send and what they receive, recorded every 5 seconds and charged per second.

What you build
Live rooms, voice rooms and PK battles on VoltKit RTC
One room model carries calls, voice rooms and interactive live rooms: audio broadcasting rooms and video broadcasting rooms where hosts and seated guests publish and everyone else in the same room watches or listens, with chat beside them.
Interactive live rooms: hosts and seated guests on air, the audience in the same room; not CDN broadcast.
What VoltKit does
Rooms with four roles (host, cohost, moderator and viewer), signed into each token by your backend and enforced by the service
A stage: a viewer raises a hand, the host promotes them to co-host and back; moderators force-mute, remove people and handle hands
Seats as named slots one person holds at a time (claim, release, block), kept through a short drop in the connection
Chat in every room, plus chat-only connections for people who only read along
Standard and HD voice, video up to 1080p with 60 fps upgrades, screen sharing and in-app music
Signed webhooks for room and participant events
What your app builds
The seat layout: a 5-seater, 9-seater, 12-seater or 20-seater room is how your app draws the stage
PK battles: timers, scores and results for 1v1 PK, 1-vs-N PK, 2v2 team PK or family PK, kept over chat and room metadata
Gifts and coins: your own wallet and payments; gift events travel as chat messages
Matchmaking, ringing, push notifications and call history
5-seater, 9-seater, 12-seater or 20-seater: the seat count is your app's layout. The service sets no limit on how many people publish in a room, so your app decides how many seats it shows. 1v1 PK, 1-vs-N PK, 2v2 team PK and family PK are app logic built on rooms, chat and the promote-and-reconnect recipe; VoltKit has no PK module.
The concepts carry over almost one to one: an Agora channel is a VoltKit room, a uid is an identity (a string you choose), a broadcaster is a host or co-host, and an audience member is a viewer. Your backend replaces Agora's token builder with two REST calls, and the app replaces RtcEngine with one StreamClient per call or room.
The honest difference is where decisions are made: roles, moderation and room lifetime are enforced by the VoltKit service from what your backend signed into the token, not by the client. A modified app cannot promote itself, unmute itself after a force-mute or ignore a removal.

2K or 4K video. VoltKit video goes up to 1080p, at 30 fps or with a 60 fps upgrade; Agora prices 2K and 2K+ tiers.
Interactive live rooms: hosts and seated guests on air, the audience in the same room; not CDN broadcast. Viewers are participants, billed at the rate of what they receive; people who only read along can use chat-only connections, which are not metered.
A released native iOS (Swift) SDK: it is in preview. The Flutter SDK builds iOS apps today.
Self-hosting. VoltKit RTC is a hosted service; your backend and apps use its REST API and SDKs.
Transcription, captions or translation.
No PK module, gift system or coin wallet: PK battles, gifts and wallets are app logic built on rooms and chat.
A published maximum room size. Each project's limits on concurrent rooms and viewers per room are shown on its Settings tab, and support can raise them.
Calls outside your app: VoltKit voice is in-app voice between your app's users.
Frequently asked questions
Is Agora free after 10,000 minutes?
Agora's allowance, per its RTC pricing doc read on 2026-10-24: 10,000 Standard Minutes a month on the Free package (an HD video minute uses 4 Standard Minutes, a Full HD minute 9). What happens after that depends on the page: Agora's RTC pricing doc gives the Free package's overuse policy as service suspension until a top-up or postpaid billing. Agora's billing-policy page says minutes beyond the free allowance are charged. Once a paid package is bought, the monthly free allowance stops. Both pages are linked above.
How does Agora count HD and Full HD minutes?
From Agora's pricing pages (docs.agora.io, read 2026-10-24): Video is priced by the aggregate resolution of all the streams a user subscribes to: HD up to 921,600 pixels, Full HD up to 2,073,600, 2K up to 3,686,400, and 2K+ above that. A Standard Minute is usage multiplied by a coefficient: audio 1, HD 4, Full HD 9, 2K 16, 2K+ 36. On VoltKit, each participant is billed one rate at a time: the highest of what they send and what they receive, recorded every 5 seconds and charged per second.
Which video calling API costs the least per minute?
There is no single answer, because vendors count different units: Agora, Tencent RTC and Stream price video by the aggregate resolution a participant receives; Twilio Video, 100ms, Daily, Vonage and Cloudflare RealtimeKit charge one rate for any video; LiveKit Cloud adds a bandwidth meter and a plan fee to its per-minute rate. The table on this page lists every rate as published on 2026-10-24, with its URL. VoltKit RTC: ₹99 (≈ $1.04) per 1,000 participant-minutes for Full HD video at the list prices published on 2026-10-24 by the vendors compared.
Does VoltKit have a free tier like Agora's?
New accounts get a one-time testing trial: 2,500 participant-minutes on your first project, at any quality; up to 25 people per room until the first paid recharge. The number is read live and changes for campaigns. Any free minutes VoltKit sets for a project are shown on the project's Overview tab.
Is chat extra?
Not on VoltKit: every room has a chat channel, and chat messages and chat-only connections are not charged, within a daily allowance that grows with your live usage. For Agora, our research noted that its monthly allowance excludes its Chat SDK; that line is unverified, so check Agora's pricing page before relying on it.
Can I migrate an Android app from Agora?
Yes. The migration guide maps Agora's concepts (channel to room, uid to identity, broadcaster and audience to host, cohost and viewer, RTM to the built-in chat) and lists RtcEngine calls beside their StreamClient equivalents, with Kotlin examples; the Flutter and JavaScript SDKs use the same names. Your backend replaces Agora's token builder with two REST calls.
Does VoltKit offer 2K or 4K video?
No. VoltKit video goes up to 1080p: one rate for 480p, 720p and 1080p at 30 fps with HD audio included, and 60 fps upgrades at 480p, 720p and 1080p, charged only while 60 fps is actually delivered. Agora lists Video 2K at $15.99 and Video 2K+ at $35.99 per 1,000 minutes (agora.io, read 2026-10-24).
Are these prices current?
Each vendor figure is the list price published on 2026-10-24 at the URL beside it; the figures are re-checked monthly and the check date is printed on the page. VoltKit's rates are read live from its price list, so they are today's.
