User Agent Checker

See your browser's user agent string and what it says about your browser, engine, operating system and device, along with the screen, language, connection and preference details websites can read. Paste any other user agent to decode it.

How to use the user agent checker

  1. Your own user agent and device details appear as soon as the page loads.
  2. Copy the string when a support form or bug report asks for it.
  3. Paste a user agent from your server logs into the box below to identify the browser and platform behind it.

Features

  • Browser, version, rendering engine, operating system and device type parsed from the user agent
  • Client hints (User-Agent Client Hints) shown when the browser supports them
  • Screen size, pixel ratio, viewport, colour depth, languages, time zone and touch support
  • Network Information API values where available, and dark-mode and reduced-motion preferences
  • Parses pasted user agents from logs; nothing is sent to a server

Why user agent strings look so strange

Every modern browser claims to be Mozilla, mentions Gecko, KHTML and Safari, and then names itself at the end. This is thirty years of compatibility hacks: each new browser copied the tokens websites already checked for. That is why parsing needs to look for Edge before Chrome and Chrome before Safari, and why any simple substring check gets it wrong.

Since 2023 Chromium browsers send a reduced user agent that freezes the OS version and minor browser version. Client hints replace the missing detail, but only for sites that ask for it. Treat the values here as a good approximation, not a fingerprint.

Frequently asked questions

Why does it say Windows 10 / 11?

The user agent string reports Windows NT 10.0 for both Windows 10 and Windows 11; the string cannot tell them apart. Client hints can, when the browser exposes the platform version.

Can websites identify me from this?

The user agent alone is shared by millions of people. Combined with screen size, fonts, time zone and other signals it becomes a fingerprint, which is why browsers are reducing what they reveal. VoltKit reads these values only to display them to you.

Why is connection type not exposed?

The Network Information API is only available in Chromium-based browsers, and even there it reports an estimate (effective type and rough downlink), not your actual plan speed.
