QR Code Generator

Make QR codes for links, text, Wi-Fi networks, email, phone numbers, SMS and contact cards. Choose the size, margin, error-correction level and colours, then download a crisp PNG or a scalable SVG. The code is drawn in your browser and nothing you type is uploaded.

How to use the qr code generator

  1. Pick the content type: Text/URL, Wi-Fi, Email, Phone, SMS or Contact.
  2. Fill in the fields. The QR code renders instantly as you type.
  3. Adjust the size, margin, error-correction level and colours to suit where the code will be printed or shown.
  4. Download the PNG for documents and screens or the SVG for print and design tools. You can also copy the encoded text.

Features

  • Wi-Fi codes that connect phones to your network when scanned (WPA/WPA2/WPA3, WEP or open, hidden networks supported)
  • mailto, tel and SMS codes with pre-filled subject, body or message
  • vCard contact codes that add a person straight to the address book
  • Size from 128 to 1024 px, adjustable quiet zone, custom foreground and background colours
  • Error-correction levels L, M, Q and H
  • PNG and SVG download, offline, with no watermark

Choosing error correction and size

QR codes include redundancy so they still scan when partly obscured. Level L tolerates about 7% damage, M 15%, Q 25% and H 30%. Higher levels add modules, so the code gets denser and needs to be printed larger. M is a good default; use H if you plan to place a logo over the middle or print on a surface that may get scuffed. Keep the quiet zone (the blank margin) at least two modules wide, since scanners use it to find the code's edges.

For print, download the SVG so the code stays sharp at any size, or export a PNG at 1024 px. On screen, 256 to 512 px is plenty. Make sure the foreground is much darker than the background; light-on-dark codes and low-contrast colour pairs often fail to scan.

What each content type encodes

Text and URLs are stored as-is; scanners open http and https links directly. Wi-Fi uses the WIFI:T:WPA;S:name;P:password;; format understood by Android and iOS cameras. Email becomes a mailto: link with the subject and body encoded, phone becomes tel:, and SMS uses smsto: with an optional pre-filled message. Contact cards are encoded as a compact vCard 3.0 with name, phone, email, organisation and website. You can inspect the exact encoded string under the preview.

Frequently asked questions

Do the QR codes expire or stop working?

No. These are static codes: the data is inside the code itself, not on a server, so they work forever and there is nothing to renew. The trade-off is that you cannot change the destination after printing.

Is my Wi-Fi password sent anywhere?

No. The code is generated entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is transmitted or stored; you can even use the page offline once it has loaded.

How much data fits in one QR code?

Up to about 2,950 bytes at level L, or 1,270 at level H. Long text makes a very dense code that is hard to scan, so keep URLs short (use a link shortener if needed) and vCards to the essentials.

Why won't my coloured QR code scan?

Scanners need strong contrast between the modules and the background and expect the modules to be the darker colour. Choose a dark foreground on a light background and avoid similar shades.
