Choose a gift format by how your application will play it. A familiar filename extension is not enough: your UI framework, player and target device all affect the result. VoltKit's animated gift collection identifies the supplied format on each gift page.
Compare the deliverables
| Format | What the asset contains | Integration question |
|---|---|---|
| SVGA | An animation for a compatible SVGA player | Does the player render the features used by this file correctly? |
| Animated WebP | Image frames with animation timing | Does the image component play animation and offer the controls you need? |
| PNG or still WebP | A still image | Is the resolution suitable for the intended display size? |
| JPG | A still image without an alpha channel | Does the image's background fit your interface? |
The SVGA web player project documents a dedicated playback approach. Google's WebP container specification describes still-image and animation containers. These are different formats and playback models; test your chosen library and version instead of assuming interchangeability.
Separate a preview from a production asset
VoltKit creates a smaller, watermarked preview for public viewing. For supported animation, that preview is an animated WebP even when the original is SVGA. This lets visitors inspect motion in the gallery without treating the preview as the deliverable.
The original may have different dimensions, frame timing, transparency or features. The preview does not promise exact playback parity with every exporter and player. Before releasing your app, inspect the original on your actual targets and check any important masking or clipping effects.
Compare memory as well as file size
A small download can still expand into substantial decoded image data. For a rough planning estimate, a single 512 by 512 RGBA frame contains about one MiB of raw pixel data. A player may keep several frames or textures in memory; its actual allocation depends on the decoder and implementation.
Use measurements from the target app rather than multiplying compressed file size by an arbitrary factor. Record peak memory, time to first visible frame and frame stability during a live call. Test repeated playback as well as the first run.
Pick a fallback before adding effects
For a scrolling gift picker, still thumbnails are often a useful starting point. Load motion when it is needed, stop playback when the view closes and provide an acknowledgement that works without animation. The performance guide turns these choices into a test plan.
If you are preparing your own source animation, explore SVGA Maker and its current input requirements. Conversion does not grant rights to someone else's artwork or guarantee a smaller result. Choose formats based on a measured prototype, then browse the gift gallery for suitable assets.
Frequently asked questions
Can a browser show an SVGA file in a normal image element?
SVGA needs a compatible animation player. VoltKit shows a generated watermarked WebP preview on catalogue pages, while the purchased original retains its listed format.
Does a WebP file always contain animation?
No. WebP can contain a still image or animation. Check whether the gift is listed as WebP or animated WebP and verify your app's playback support.
