What Lorem ipsum is
Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin derived from Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum, in use as filler text since the days of metal type. Because it has the letter and word-length distribution of ordinary prose without meaning anything, designers can judge typography and layout without being distracted by the words. It became a standard through Letraset transfer sheets in the 1960s and desktop publishing software in the 1980s.
Using filler text well
Generate slightly more than you think you need so you can test overflow, wrapping and truncation. Use the HTML option when pasting into a CMS or a component so paragraph spacing renders correctly. Replace placeholder text before anything ships; stray Lorem ipsum on live pages is a common and embarrassing mistake, and it is worth searching your build for “lorem” before release.
