Billing
A flat rate against a rate by the media used
VoltKit charges each participant one rate at a time, for the highest media they send or receive: standard voice at ₹39 (≈ $0.41), HD voice at ₹49 (≈ $0.52), or Full HD video with HD audio included at ₹99 (≈ $1.04), each per 1,000 participant-minutes. Usage is recorded in seconds and billed per participant-second; viewers are participants too.
- Twilio Video lists $4.00 per 1,000 participant-minutes ($0.004 per participant-minute) for any video; its pricing page publishes no separate audio-only rate.twilio.comread 2026-10-24
8 people × 45 minutes = 360 participant-minutes
360 participant-minutes × 99 ÷ 1,000 = 35.64 credits, ₹35.64 (≈ $0.38) at today's rate
Full HD Video + HD Audio: 99 credits per 1,000 participant-minutes. Billed per second, so a 7½-minute call costs 7½ minutes.
10 people × 60 minutes = 600 participant-minutes
600 participant-minutes × 39 ÷ 1,000 = 23.4 credits, ₹23.40 (≈ $0.25) at today's rate
Standard Voice: 39 credits per 1,000 participant-minutes. Billed per second, so a 7½-minute call costs 7½ minutes.
Tokens and rooms
Tokens and rooms, side by side
If your backend mints Twilio access tokens today, the same endpoint can mint VoltKit tokens. It makes sure the room exists, then mints a token per user with the role your backend decides; the app receives token and wsUrl.
Roles (host, cohost, moderator, viewer) are signed into the token and enforced by the service. A token lives ten minutes by default; the service sends a fresh one before it lapses, so a call can last for hours.

Each participant is billed one rate at a time: the highest of what they send and what they receive, recorded every 5 seconds and charged per second.

What you build
Calls, group rooms and interactive live rooms
Interactive live rooms: hosts and seated guests on air, the audience in the same room; not CDN broadcast.
- One-to-one callsA room of two: the caller is the host and the callee a co-host, so both speak. End it from your backend when a call is cancelled.One-to-one calls
- Group video roomsEveryone publishes camera and microphone; adaptive layers give each viewer the largest picture their connection carries.Rooms
- Interactive live roomsHosts and co-hosts on stage, the audience in the same room as viewers; a viewer raises a hand and the host promotes them.Stage and seats
Chat runs on the same connection, with chat-only connections for people who only read along: see Chat and the VoltKit RTC overview.
Limits
What VoltKit RTC does not offer
- Transcription or captions.
- A released native iOS (Swift) SDK: it is in preview. The Flutter SDK builds iOS apps today.
- Calls outside your app: VoltKit voice is in-app voice between your app's users.
- A published maximum room size. Each project's limits on concurrent rooms and viewers per room are shown on its Settings tab, and support can raise them.
Frequently asked questions
Is Twilio Video ending?
No. An end-of-life date announced on 5 December 2023 (for 5 December 2024) was extended on 26 March 2024 to 5 December 2026 and withdrawn on 21 October 2024. Twilio's changelog says “Twilio Video will remain a standalone product” (twilio.com, read 2026-10-24).
What does Twilio Video cost per 1,000 participant-minutes?
$4.00: its pricing page lists Video Group Rooms at $0.004 per participant-minute (twilio.com, read 2026-10-24), with no resolution tiers. Recordings, compositions, transcription and media storage are billed separately.
Does Twilio Video price audio-only calls separately?
Its pricing page publishes no audio-only rate (twilio.com, read 2026-10-24). VoltKit bills an audio-only participant at standard voice, ₹39 (≈ $0.41), or HD voice, ₹49 (≈ $0.52), per 1,000 participant-minutes, read live.
Does VoltKit have resolution tiers?
One video rate covers 480p, 720p and 1080p at 30 fps, with HD audio included. The only steps are the 60 fps upgrades at 480p, 720p and 1080p, charged only while 60 fps is actually delivered: a 60 fps request the camera or connection cannot deliver is billed as 30 fps.
How do VoltKit tokens compare with Twilio access tokens?
Your backend calls PUT /v1/rooms/{roomId} and POST /v1/rooms/{roomId}/tokens with its API secret, and the app receives token and wsUrl. The role is signed into the token and enforced by the service; a token lives ten minutes by default, and the service sends a fresh one during the session, so a call can run for hours.
What is a participant-minute?
One participant connected for one minute = one participant-minute. Ten people in a room for six minutes use 60 participant-minutes, viewers included. VoltKit records usage in seconds and bills per participant-second, so nothing is rounded up to the next minute.
Are these prices current?
Each vendor figure is the list price published on 2026-10-24 at the URL beside it; the figures are re-checked monthly and the check date is printed on the page. VoltKit's rates are read live from its price list, so they are today's.
Build your live rooms on VoltKit RTC
Voice rooms, video calls and interactive live rooms with chat, from one prepaid wallet in rupees. Your backend mints the tokens; the browser, React, Flutter and Android SDKs join the room.
