Dyte alternative: after the Cloudflare acquisition, RealtimeKit vs VoltKit RTC

Dyte SDKs in maintenance mode; RealtimeKit is the successor (Dyte docs, read 2026-10-24). Source

Dyte's own docs now send its customers to Cloudflare RealtimeKit. This page quotes what happened in the vendors' own words, lists RealtimeKit's published prices, and maps a Dyte app's meetings, participants and presets onto VoltKit RTC rooms, tokens and roles.

Every vendor figure is the list price read on 2026-10-24, with its URL; VoltKit's rates are read live from its price list. The other vendors are on the comparison of every video API.

VoltKit RTC: ₹99 (≈ $1.04) per 1,000 participant-minutes for Full HD video at the list prices published on 2026-10-24 by the vendors compared.

Cloudflare RealtimeKit

Cloudflare RealtimeKit's list prices

RealtimeKit prices participants per minute in US dollars, with no resolution tiers; export and raw media lines are separate. The Realtime SFU and TURN egress line belongs to Cloudflare's infrastructure product, not to the SDK bundle.

Migration

Moving from Dyte

There is no Dyte-specific migration guide for VoltKit; the pieces map directly. Your backend keeps deciding who joins which room with which role, and mints a short-lived token for each person; the app joins with one StreamClient.

A Dyte app's building blocks and their VoltKit RTC equivalents
In a Dyte appOn VoltKit RTC
A meetinga room: PUT /v1/rooms/{roomId} creates it, or returns the live one
Adding a participant from your backendminting a token: POST /v1/rooms/{roomId}/tokens with identity and role returns token and wsUrl
A participant preseta role signed into the token: host, cohost, moderator or viewer, enforced by the service
Bringing someone on stageraiseHand(), then the host's promote(identity, "cohost"); promote(identity, "viewer") sends them back
Chat in the meetingchat in every room on the same connection, plus chat-only connections that are not metered as participants
Meeting events for your backendsigned webhooks for room and participant events

Issue tokens from your backend builds the endpoint, and Rooms and Authentication cover roles, the stage and moderation. The server SDKs for Node.js, Python, Go, PHP and Java wrap the two calls (ensureRoom and createToken; ensure_room and create_token in Python). In the app:

Building in India

Rupee prices and UPI

  • Cloudflare RealtimeKit lists its prices in US dollars.developers.cloudflare.comread 2026-10-24
  • VoltKit is built in India and lists rupee prices, paid from a prepaid wallet by UPI, card or net banking through Razorpay. There is no subscription and nothing renews; before you pay, the checkout shows exactly what you pay and the credits you get.

VoltKit's rate for the same thing

One video rate covers 480p, 720p and 1080p at 30 fps with HD audio included; voice has a standard and an HD rate; 60 fps upgrades are charged only while delivered. The same list is on the pricing page, and pricing in India adds a participant-minute calculator and paying by UPI, card or net banking.

Each participant is billed one rate at a time: the highest of what they send and what they receive, recorded every 5 seconds and charged per second.

Video with HD audio is 99 credits per 1,000 participant-minutes in total, never 99 + 49. A participant is billed one rate at a time: the highest media they actually send or receive.

0.099 credits per participant-minute · ₹99 (≈ $1.04) per 1,000 participant-minutes

Optional 60 fps upgrades

The premium is added to the video rate; at 30 fps the video rate applies. Totals include HD audio.

Prices are in VoltKit Credits. New recharges: ₹1 = 1.0000 credits (≈ $0.01), so video with HD audio costs ₹99 (≈ $1.04) per 1,000 participant-minutes at today's conversion. Price list version 1.

Prices are in Indian rupees; dollar figures are approximate, at ₹95 per US dollar on 24 October 2026, for orientation only. You are billed in rupees.

Prices are in credits per 1,000 participant-minutes. One participant connected for one minute = one participant-minute.

  • Rates measured per participant-minute.
  • HD audio included with video.
  • Actual media mode determines applicable rate.
  • Enabling services does not itself generate metered charges.
  • Quality depends on supported device, codec, and network.
  • Billing uses authenticated server-side measurements.
  • Wallet offers and conversion are displayed before payment.
  • Taxes, where applicable, are shown separately or clearly included.
  • Premium frame rates depend on availability and compatibility.

Limits

What VoltKit RTC does not offer

  • Transcription or captions.
  • A released native iOS (Swift) SDK: it is in preview. The Flutter SDK builds iOS apps today.
  • Video above 1080p: VoltKit video goes up to 1080p, at 30 fps or with a 60 fps upgrade.
  • A published maximum room size. Each project's limits on concurrent rooms and viewers per room are shown on its Settings tab, and support can raise them.

Frequently asked questions

What happened to Dyte?

Venture Intelligence reported that Cloudflare acquired Dyte. Dyte's docs say “the Dyte SDKs are now in maintenance mode and will no longer receive feature updates or bug fixes” and point to a guide for moving to Cloudflare RealtimeKit (docs.dyte.io, read 2026-10-24). dyte.io/pricing answered HTTP 302 to cloudflare.com/products/realtime/ on 2026-10-24.

What does Cloudflare RealtimeKit cost?

$0.002 per participant-minute for audio and video ($2.00 per 1,000) and $0.0005 for audio-only ($0.50 per 1,000), with no resolution tiers (developers.cloudflare.com, read 2026-10-24). The RealtimeKit pricing page read “last updated Oct 19, 2026” when it was checked. Export (recording, RTMP, HLS) is priced separately.

Is there a RealtimeKit free tier?

No free tier shown on the RealtimeKit pricing page (developers.cloudflare.com, read 2026-10-24). Cloudflare's Realtime SFU and TURN product lists $0.05 per GB after the first 1,000 GB a month (shared), which are free; that is an infrastructure product, not the SDK bundle. VoltKit gives new accounts a one-time testing trial: 2,500 participant-minutes on your first project, at any quality; up to 25 people per room until the first paid recharge.

How do Dyte presets map to VoltKit roles?

Your backend chooses each person's role when it mints their token: host, cohost, moderator or viewer. Hosts and co-hosts publish; moderators mute, remove people and handle raised hands; viewers watch and listen. The role is signed into the token and enforced by the service, and the host's promote() moves a viewer on stage and back.

Does VoltKit include chat like Dyte did?

Yes. Every room has a chat channel, and people who only read along can use a chat-only connection, which is not metered as a participant. Direct messages, reactions, typing indicators, recent history and moderation are built in, and chat messages are not charged, within a daily allowance that grows with live usage.

What is a participant-minute?

One participant connected for one minute = one participant-minute. Ten people in a room for six minutes use 60 participant-minutes, viewers included. VoltKit records usage in seconds and bills per participant-second, so nothing is rounded up to the next minute.

Are these prices current?

Each vendor figure is the list price published on 2026-10-24 at the URL beside it; the figures are re-checked monthly and the check date is printed on the page. VoltKit's rates are read live from its price list, so they are today's.

Build your live rooms on VoltKit RTC

Voice rooms, video calls and interactive live rooms with chat, from one prepaid wallet in rupees. Your backend mints the tokens; the browser, React, Flutter and Android SDKs join the room.
